GSS Travel Grant Program

*website maintenance in progress*

The Graduate Student Senate Travel Grant (GSS Travel Grant) provides supplemental funding to help graduate and professional students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville travel to present, perform, compete, and represent the university at academic and professional events.

The program is highly competitive. Funding decisions and grant amounts are based on individual financial need and the strength of application materials. The grant is intended to supplement funding from advisors, departments, and colleges rather than serve as a primary funding source.

The GSS Travel Grant is funded by the Graduate School. Applications are administratively reviewed through the Graduate School, and all funding decisions are made by the GSS Travel Grant Committee.

Funding Basics

Grants typically range from $500 to $1,000. International travel is reviewed under a higher-cost, need-based tier. The program is highly competitive, and available funds may not accommodate all qualified applications in a given cycle. Grants are not guaranteed.

Before You Apply

Applicants are expected to seek funding from their advisor, department, and college prior to applying. All confirmed or anticipated outside funding must be accurately reported in the application. The committee uses this information to assess individual financial need and direct limited funds accordingly.

Applications must be submitted during the quarter in which the primary activity takes place. If travel spans more than one quarter, apply during the cycle in which the primary activity, such as a presentation or competition, takes place. Full deadline and travel period information is available on the Overview & Policy page.
