Appreciation Week

The Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center and the Graduate School are planning for an amazing third annual Graduate and Professional Student Appreciate Week (GPSAW) set to take place April 3-7th, 2017. The Graduate Student Senate is coordinating with organizations across campus to bolster the week with social events and professional development activities from free professional headshots to a special opening of Smokey’s Closet to a talent show (more details to come)!

One of the most exciting events leading up to and during the appreciation week is the opportunity for graduate and professional students to take part in the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Head over to the Graduate School’s 3MT Challenge website for more information about the competition, workshops, criteria, and prizes.

History

Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week is part of a national celebration initiated by the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students in 1993. The celebration is designed to help the nation recognize the accomplishments and contributions of graduate and professional students to universities and communities. In 2011, at least 4 institutions hosted a Graduate and Professional Student Appreciation Week and 14 of our Top 25 institutions host a week.

Goals

  • Acknowledge and recognize the contributions of graduate and professional students to UT and the Knoxville community.
  • Celebrate the accomplishments and presence of graduate and professional students at the University.
  • Bring awareness to the issues, concerns, and needs of graduate and professional students at the UT.
